SkyX Client

The SkyX® Client, combined with the SkyX Server, transparently enhances the performance of TCP over satellite links. In order to use the SkyX Client, you must have a SkyX Server installed at the hub of your network.

There are two versions of the SkyX Client 3.1 software:

1. SkyX Client 3.1.1 is for use with Windows 98, 98SE, and Me
2. SkyX Client 3.1.2 is for use with Windows NT, 2000, and XP.

SkyX Client Version 3.1.1 adds the following new features:

• Adds congestion control on the return channel to automatically adjust the trasmission rate to the bandwidth available to the client.

SkyX Client Version 3.0 adds the following new feature:

• Prefetch for faster Web downloads (requires use of SkyX Server system software v4.0 or later.)
• Local host autodiscovery to automatically detect and turn off SkyX processing for communications between SkyX Clients on the same local area network.

v3.0 also fixes a bug in the NT/2000/XP version which on very high speed links can lead to data corruption for connections which are not SkyX enhanced. Users of SkyX Client for Windows NT, 2000, and XP, v2.0.x should upgrade to Version 3.0.0 or later.

Note: For Windows NT, 2000, and XP, only the home or professional version is tested and supported. While there are currently no known incompatibilities with the server versions of these operating systems, Mentat can not guarantee that the SkyX Client will be compatible with all permutations of the hardware, system services, and applications on the server version of these operating systems. The specific versions supported are:

Windows NT 4.0: The Workstation version is supported, but must be running Service Pack 6 or higher. The Server version is not supported.

Windows 2000: The Professional version is supported. The Server, Advanced Server, and Datacenter versions are not supported.

Windows XP: The Home and Professional versions are supported. The Media Center and Tablet versions are not supported.
